May 06, 2017 · I have had to make adjustments when I'm working with lesser scopes and want to put a 1" scope in 30mm rings. There are plastic shims for that and I usually wind up cutting a bit off the ends to give the shims a little squeeze room. It really takes very little clamping force to hold a scope in place. I've never messed with shimming bases or rings via aluminum can but I know a ton of guys used to do it. Personally I prefer to use the Burris Signature moa shim system but haven't found it necessary outside of wanting more MOA to push shots beyond 1000 yards. It's a quick solution, but there's always the worry of the shim working loose, "wracking" the scope tube, etc. As long as the shim is relatively thin, and the solution involves something like Acra-Glas, I've heard of good results. Hey guys, Last week I installed a Burris Fastfire 3 on my glock 17. I used the dovetail mount for glocks that burris makes for the FF3. I read the instructions, and installed it exactly as directed, everything is centered, and on tight(I used loktite as reccomended).
